Don't drink tea only because you are forced to do so

Tea should bring you serenity and enjoyment. If someone is forcing you to drink tea only because he or she is a true addict that doesn't mean you have to do it as well. There is a time and place for everything. If you really want to begin your tea journey, start at your own pace and with your own teas.

Don't keep tea in a humid hot place

This is the most important step be really liking your tea. If you bought a tea three years ago, or got it as a present, and now you decided to finally give it a chance, you probably won't like it. Every tea needs to be fresh to amaze you. Store it well.

Don't be cheap on leaves

Really, don't. You don't need to buy the most expensive tea in the world, but don't buy long jing for one dollar only because you saw it on eBay and think it's a good start. I tried quite a lot of eBay auction teas, they don't even worth 1 dollar. 200 grams.

Don't forget about the time

Steeping time, water temperature, water quality – they all matter. If you are not sure, it's always a better decision to choose colder water or/and shorter steeping time and adjust the temperature/time next time. This is always a better option than betting a bitter tea – this is especially true for green teas, but some blacks like Darjeeling will also become very bitter.

Don't be angry when brewing

If you really want to enjoy your tea, always choose the moment when you are peaceful and not full of anger or bitterness. Tea brewed with bitterness will taste very bad. Now that you have switched to loose leaf, take one more step further and learn what tea can do for you. Appreciate your tea and the passion, effort, knowledge and time it was put into it.

There is one more DON'T that you should especially pay attention to when you buy tea online. Don't buy it just because someone said a specific tea is very healthy. Tea is a very healthy drink, but if you really want to experience all the goodness it can offer, you also have to enjoy it.
