Tin Cans, foil bags, recycled bags, SUV's.... I'm tired of throwing away a paper bag, plastic wrap and a foam tray for every pack of 3 chicken breasts I buy... how did we get here and how do we go back?

By example we can influence others. When I'm at the beach or park, I have my children pick up three pieces of trash from the ground and walk it to the trashcan. I notice other kids and parents even watch from the corners of their eyes, which is most rewarding. It may or may not prompt them to do the same, but it doest plant a seed in their heads. Little by little we can pitch in with the ways most unique to ourselves to make a difference.

Sorry to say, I dont think we ever started on the right foot to begin with. Going back wouldnt help. I dont even think fixing it will work. I feel like Wall-E sometimes, but with no resolution. there are too many people out there that dont care enough.

I've got to agree with Carmelina on this one. I spent most of my life in a five college town in Massachusetts, where a great amount of "healthy crunchy" people live. Yes, I am one of them. I then moved down to Florida, where it seems like most people in my area have never even heard of the word recycling. I do my best to educate not only my children, but teach them to educate their peers. Leading by example is the best way to spread the bug.
